Outlander actress Caitriona Balfe says years before she took on Claire Fraser, she was cast in the movie Devil Wears Prada, despite parts of the internet suggesting otherwise.
Caitriona Balfe has been behind the iconic Claire Fraser in Outlander since Starz brought Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling novel series Outlander to life.
For 10 years, subscribers have watched Claire fall madly in love with Scotsman Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan), square up to horrific villains and grow accustomed to life in the 18th Century.
Prior to her time in Outlander, Balfe had worked on a handful of other projects like Super 8, The Beauty Inside, Crush, Now You See Me and Escape Plan.
But one line of work which isn’t on the 44-year-old star’s IMDb page is the fashion comedy-drama The Devil Wears Prada.
The 2006 film follows Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) as she is hired to be a personal assistant for powerful fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).
Not only does Andy have to try and keep up with Miranda’s rude attitude and grueling tasks, she must try and fit in with her obnoxious colleagues, including Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt).
In a quiz set up by New York Magazine, Balfe and her Outlander co-star Heughan, were asked a series of questions to see how well they really know each other.
One of the questions was: “Early in her acting career, Caitriona appeared in which movie starring Meryl Streep?”
Heughan mentioned The Devil Wears Prada but he didn’t actually think she was in the film.
To this, Balfe replied: “I mean, I worked on it for two days from here down -“, gesturing towards her waist. “Your legs were in it?”, Heughan queried.
Balfe then elaborated: “I was a clacker, I was officially a ‘clacker’, one of the girls who works at ‘Vogue’ and wears high heels.”
“I don’t think you see me but I was in it.”
Before Balfe worked on movie and TV sets, she was a model, walking runways around the world for major brands like Chanel and Marc Jacobs.
She was also a Victoria’s Secret Model and when an image of herself on the catwalk was brought up during an appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Balfe joked she was the “whitest” model.
The actress said: “I was the whitest one on stage and I got a spray tan and went to them and they were like ‘can you go and get another one?'”
